Recommendations for your listening pleasure (1)

Apr 27th, 2007 by admin | 0

Well now in the meantime until there is some more important news, I will give you some information about two bands whose music I’ve been listening to over the last couple of weeks.

Director

First there is Director, a “four-piece” from Dublin, Malahide to be precise. They play great Indie Rock music – or whatever you want to call it – and had their break trough in Ireland last year with their debut album “We thrive on big cities”, which was released on Atlantic Records in September 2006. It is an absolutely great album with several superb tracks such as the two singles “Reconnect” and “Come with a friend”.
On March 11th Director will release a new Single titled “Be with you” in Ireland which features a re-recorded version of the song “Last time” as the B-side. Go to www.myspace.com/directormusic to listen to both of these tracks, which are really great once again.
To get a free download of their track “Man I imagine” (the B-side of the “Come with a friend”-single) click here.
Watch out for future releases of this great band. I haven’t got any information yet weather their records will also be releases in countries other than Ireland and the UK in the future. But if they are, buy them.

The Staggers @ Picture On 2006

The second band I want to introduce to you are the Staggers from Graz. According to various sources, their music can be classified as 60ties garage rock. I extremely recommend anybody who doesn’t absolutely dislike this kind of music, to go to one of their gigs to see them live (I already had the pleasure twice). Check their myspace site for their schedule.
After having released several singles/EPs (on vinyl) they now have their debut album “Teenage trash insanity” out, that is absolutely great and always makes me remember the Staggers’ live performance while listening.
But to actually see them live is always an experience. Especially singer Wild Evel’s performance is always fun. For example, when he talks about being a Rock’n’Roll singer in very bad English or when he fills his beer into his shoe just to drink it from there afterwards. Or simply when he comes on stage swinging a plastic bone saying that he loves primitive Rock’n’Roll music.
So click here to download some of their songs and videos, buy their album and go and see them live if you get the chance.
Just as it says on the back cover of the album: “It’s stupid but I love it”.
